Paris Saint-Germain Are Champions of UEFA Champions League After Inter Milan Defeat In Five-Goal Thriller

Paris Saint-Germain beat Inter Milan in the final to become the UEFA Champions League trophy winners

Paris Saint-Germain are the champions of the UEFA Champions League this season, and it was their first ever in the competition after defeating Inter Milan by 5-0 in the final at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

Winning this trophy has been PSG’s holy grail since the Qatari takeover in 2011. The last time they lifted a silverware in a European competition was at the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

The game kicked off with Achraf Hakimi scoring a beautifully executed goal from a tap-in in the 11th minute. Doue added to the scoreline. Following a cross from Dembele, his shot was deflected off Dimarco and left Sommer wrong-footed as it sailed into the net.

Upon their return from halftime break, Doue, 19, netted his second goal in the 57th minute, coolly finishing past Sommer after a delightful backheel assist from Dembele.

As the match progressed, Inter Milan's chances of a comeback faded. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia capped off the scoring in the 73rd minute, finding the back of the net with a precise finish after Dembele played him with a through ball through the centre. Mayulu sealed the victory with the fifth, blasting the ball past Sommer after a one-two ball with Barcola.

Manager Luis Enrique became the sixth coach in UCL history to win the competition with two different clubs, securing PSG’s first-ever quadruple after romping to the Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and Trophée des Champions titles already this season.

Overview

It was a hopeless game for the Italians, who from the start appeared to be consumed by the tenacity of their opponents, leading to the Parisians taking an early lead. Ousmane Dembele played an important role in the outcome for the Ligue 1 side. He was directly involved in three goals, though Doue scored a brace.

Inter's midfield was in a bad shape; porous and incoordinated. They seemed to be aimless in finding a goal and could barely put the Parisians' defence to the test. However, PSG approached the match differently from their opponents. They maintained possession and launched counterattacks to get the needed goals.
