Chelsea Beat Liverpool In First Game After Winning Premier League

Chelsea claimed an impressive 3-1 against the newly-crowned Premier League champions, Liverpool, as their bid for the UEFA Champions League slot continues.

Liverpool were a little relaxed and unambitious, unlike Chelsea. The Blues desperately needed the victory. The Reds had every key player on the pitch, yet the defense was too porous for the Blues to take advantage of.

Endo Fernandez tapped home Neto's cross from that far right, and the Blues' lead doubled in the second as Jarrel Amorin Quansa deflected in Virgil van Dijk's clearance for an own goal. Van Dijk compensated for his own goal by scoring the Reds' only goal, nodding home Mac Allister's corner.

The Blues drew a penalty as Quansa fouled Moises Caicedo in the box following an unintended pass from Szoboszlai into his own 18-yard box. Cole Palmer converted the spot kick for Chelsea's fourth goal.

After losing the game, Liverpool became the first team since 1997/98 to be defeated in their first game after being crowned champions of the Premier League.
