Carlos Alcaraz Thrashes Jannik Sinner To Win Maiden Italian Open Title

Jannik Sinner lost the opportunity to clinch his first trophy upon his return from a three-month suspension on his home soil, losing to Carlos Alcaraz, who won his maiden Italian Open and his second Masters 1000 title of the season.
Alcaraz was returning from an injury scare in the Barcelona Open final, which he lost to Rune Holger. He was later forced to pull out of the Madrid Open for the same reason. However, he was in his best shape in Rome to claim his second clay-court title since Roland Garros.
Jannik lost in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-1, finding the Spaniard too strong to dominate. More so, the Italian's backhand shot was rusty, and he committed unforced errors too often to cost him the match. He was tarky with most of the advantages he had in the previous rounds. As for Alcaraz, that was an advantage, and he did so with drop shots and aces.
"The first thing I want to say is that I'm just really happy to see Jannik back at this amazing level. I'm sure it wasn't easy for him coming back after three months," said Alcaraz. "Tactically, I think I played pretty well from the first point until the last one."
Sinner was bidding to become the first Italian player to win the men's singles title since 1976 after Adriano Panatta. However, he became the third Italian male player to reach the Italian Open final, though he did not win.
