Carlos Alcaraz Eases Through French Open Opening Round

Carlos Alcaraz reaches the next round  of the French Open by defeating Giulio Zeppieri

Carlos Alcaraz was out to an impressive first-round match at Roland Garros, defeating Giulio Zeppieri in an outstanding performance, just a week after winning his first ATP Masters 1000 title in the Italian Open.

Giulio could not convert any break advantage and was neatly losing to the defending champion in three sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Alcaraz improved to 16-1 tour-level match wins on clay-court this season. The Spaniard will now face Fabian Marozsan in the next round.

The second seed won his ATP tour-level title at Monte Carlo but was defeated in the final of the Barcelona Open by Holger Rune following an injury scare. However, he returned to his scintillating form in Rome and won the Italian Open Masters 1000 title for his third tour-level title this season.

"I think I found a really good path again," said Alacaraz on his form. "I'm just starting to get it, feeling more comfortable approaching these matches. Once I start the matches, I'm just keeping the high level (throughout) the match and the whole tournament."

As the Spaniard advanced to the next round, he is on the quest to defend the title to become the second player after Rafael Nadal to win the French Open title back-to-back in Roland Garros. However, other top contenders like Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Holger Rune are participating in the tournament.
