Ryan Coogler's Film, Sinners Takes Box Office By Storm
As films continue to earn huge profits at the box office, A Minecraft Movie remained atop the chart, nearing the billion-dollar mark. However, two weeks after the Warner Bros. film dominated, a newcomer has taken the number one spot from the animated-adaptation film.
Sinners, another Warner film, debuted with a whooping $48 million in domestic gross, showing its predecessor, Minecraft, to number two in its third weekend with a 48% drop in ticket sales to make $40.4 million. Directed by Ryan Coogler from Black Panther, the film defied its projected performance, which was set for $45 million.
Considering the film's earnings from the international market, its global gross stands at $61 million. It has done well enough for a R-rated film, making it the highest-grossing original film since Us, released in 2019.
The first trailer for the Michael B. Jordan-starring film was released in September 2024, and it was not unusual that it received huge publicity, being an original film from Ryan Coogler, who is famous for his success with Black Panther. Also, having Michael in the lead role could be another catch for a huge fan turnout because the actor gained a huge fan base on the backdrop of the superhero, and for his lead role in Creed.
Warner Bros. is making the most of Spring, particularly with Minecraft, after its initial films for the year flopped. Minecraft's global gross stands at $720.8 million, making it the first Hollywood film to reach that milestone this year. At the box office, it only trails the Chinese movie, Ne Zha, as the second-highest-grossing film this year.
