Paris Saint-Germain Humbled Aston Villa In Four-Goal Thriller

 

Nuno Mendes scores the winning goal as Paris Saint-Germain beat Aston Villa in Champions League quarterfinal first leg

Paris Saint-Germain fought back from a goal deficit to win by 3-1 the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinal first leg tie against Aston Villa at Parc des Princes Stadium. 

The match began with a flurry of activity, as both teams created scoring opportunities. PSG's pressure paid off, with Vitinha's low-cut shot from the edge of the area saved by Martinez. Villa switched things up and found the right moment to move into the lead. 

Villa took the lead from Morgan Rogers, scoring a stunning goal. McGinn won the ball off Mendes near the halfway line, and Villa were ahead within seconds. The move was beautifully executed, with Rashford playing a smart early pass to Tielemans, who screwed a perfect low cross into the box. Rogers arrived at the far post to score from six yards, and the Villa fans erupted.

PSG equalized just four minutes later, with an individual effort from Desire Doue, who struck the ball into the underside of the bar after Nino Mendes played him in on the edge of the box. The French side doubled the lead after the halftime break from another individual from Kvaratskhelia, who latched on through the left flank and body-dummied a defender and struck the ball into the top corner of the goal.  

Medes finished off the scoring following an assist from Dembele poking a pass unto him and moved into scoring range blasting the ball into the net. 

PSG follow their streak from earlier stages of the competition, beating Villa as the third Premier League team they have beaten in this campaign after Manchester City and Liverpool. 

Overview 

Devastating for Aston Villa to have lost to the Ligue 1 side's comeback. Villa started impressively, and Rogers' goal could not have been taken any better. Nevertheless, PSG fought back and took the game to Villa. Douce's individual effort ignited the comeback, and the French side was revamped. 

Villa had the right attitude towards the game; it was not that they had defense issues, but the brilliance of the French side produced all three goals. They took advantage of the left wing as the weak spot to burrow into Villa's box.
