Nottingham Forest Put Man United In Their Place
Manchester United endured a disappointing defeat 1-0 on the road to Nottingham Forest, further consolidating the hosts' position in the top four.
Forest barely controlled the game, but it was difficult to get past their defense since they took the lead from a counter in the early stages. Rasmus Holjund was kept at bay while Garnacho troubled Forest's defense, but still could not find the back of the net.
Ryan Yates set the counter for Anthony Elanga to race through the midfield, warding off Garnacho to smack the ball into the net.
United gave it all they had against Forest's stronghold of the game. The Red Devils conceded too early and could not undo the deficit, despite making efforts and keeping hold of the ball. Instead, Forest looked dangerous on the counter, seeking to seal off the game with the second.
Elanga was trouble for United on the counter. His pace and agility were a challenge, and he nearly doubled his goal tally, but Yoro rightly tackled the ball off his feet on the edge of the box. After all, it was Forest's game, and they defended well to earn the maximum points.
Even at a loss, Bruno Fernandez was influential on the game. He facilitated a couple of scoring moments for Garnacho, and while Holjund was in a good position to receive the ball in the box, his goal attempt was blocked. Another moment that showed the resoluteness in Forest's defense was the touchline clearance of Maguire's effort by Murillo.
At the end, it was Forest's game and they were out to win, despite United's dominance. They kept those shots out by blocking the attempts. Though United have the big names, Forest had the technicalities, and it paid off.
