Disney's 'A Minecraft Movie' Takes Box Office By Surprise
Snow White is taking the back seat while a new entry takes the box office summit. Do not get it wrong. The Rachel Zegler-led film is in the top five of the weekend chart. However, Warner Bros.' newly released video-game adaptation, A Minecraft Movie, is making huge waves across cinemas even beyond its domestic market. In the United Kingdom, it made an outstanding debut, which is the first of its kind since Barbie in 2023.
For some time now, grossing has had a humbling trend with films struggling to make their projected income on opening weekends. That was not the case with Minecraft. It turned out to be a blockbuster from the get-go, making $163m domestically in its first three days in the cinemas. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, it took a smashing performance of £15m from the country's market.
Already, it has surpassed its $150 million budget, and it is leaving no stone unturned in the international market where it hauled $150.7 million from overseas. Overall, its worldwide gross total is $313.2 million, making Minecraft one of the highest-grossing films in 2025. Captain America: Brave New World and the Chinese film, Ne Zha 2, still top the year as the two best-performing films.
Minecraft, a video game owned by Microsoft, is about four misfits who slipped into the underworld of books. After spending time in the underworld, they were helped through a portal back to the surface. However, besides Minecraft, other films also performed well over the weekend, though their earnings were moderate.
A Working Man followed in second place with $7.3 million, increasing its global cume to $44 million in its second weekend. As Snow White, its gross dropped by 59%, grossing $5.9 million in its third weekend. Worldwide, it has a gross 0f 4167 million. The animation film adaptation continues to struggle at the box office and yet to surpass its $200 million budget.
