Carlos Alcaraz wins first-ever Monte Carlo title

Carlos Alcaraz has won his first-ever Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 title in a hard-fought final against Lorenzo Musetti in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.

The Spaniard won the title on his first Monte-Carlo Masters final appearance. Before this edition, he had never won a match at the tournament, but broke the jinx in the opening round against Francisco Cerundolo. The title will be his third consecutive Masters 1000 title since winning the Roland Garros title last season.

It was a disappointing defeat for Musetti, who struggled with an injury in the final. He was sensational from the get-go, matching all the techniques that Alcaraz would have deployed against him. The first set was adequately dictated by him, breaking twice to lead 5-3, and he claimed a set-point utilizing a drop shot for Alcaraz to unforce.

Musetti began to wane in the second set as his struggles with injury started to impact his performance. However, Alacarz changed his approach to the match, deploring cross-court shots rather than deep down the baseline, which enabled Musetti to resist his aggressions in the opener. The second and third set was a breeze for Alacarz.

"I feel really sorry for him that it ended like this, it's not easy," said Alcaraz in a post-match interview. "Really happy to have won Monte Carlo for the first time. Difficult win with a lot of difficult situations. I dealt with everything."

The championship victory extended Alcaraz's Masters 1000 title streak to six and his first ATP Masters title in 13 months. He had been struggling to make an ATP Masters final appearance since winning his last in Roland Garros in May 2024.
