Brahim Diaz Sets Side Ahead As Real Madrid Beat Atletico Madrid In UCL R16 First Leg

Real Madrid secured an important round of 16 first-leg victory by 2-1 in a UEFA Champions League derby against Atletico Madrid.

Atletico conceded as early as five minutes but restored level terms later into the half. However, Real's players' sheer brilliance would once more put the opposition's defense to the test, leading to Brahim Diaz restoring the hosts back in the lead.

Valverde played ball in for Rodrygo, who rounded two defenders and curled a left-footed shot from inside the box to the right corner of the goal. Javi Galan played in Julian Alvarez on the left, he dribbled past Adingra and curled the ball into the net.

Real regained the lead in the second half as Diaz out of individual effort dribbled past a crowded box and curled the ball past  Oblak.

Atletico will host their opponents in the second leg. Both teams drew (1-1) in their encounter in the Spanish La Liga and Atletico had been unbeaten in their previous five games in all competitions.

Overview

It was a game between familiar rivals. Both sides were interesting and energetic, and both first-half goals were crafted out of individual brilliance. Though Adingra left off Alvarez to move into goalscoring range, it was still a well-taken curly shot.

Atletico made a great effort to keep their hosts at bay. Even at a loss, they have secured a fair head start to the second leg on their own turf.
