Arsenal Force Draw To Share Spoils With Manchester United At Old Trafford
Manchester United hosted one of the Premier League’s most competitive rivals, Arsenal, and fought hard to secure a 1-1 draw following Declan Rice's comeback strike.
From the last meeting, Arsenal were 1-0 winners on this ground from last season. Against that backdrop, they stood the better chance at Old Trafford. They had just claimed a historic victory in the UEFA Champions League by defeating PSV Eindhoven by a whopping 7-1, a record margin for the first time ever in the competition.
The first goal came in the closing minutes of the first half. Bruno Fernandes struck from a sensational free-kick, sending the ball into the net from outside of the box. Arsenal restored level terms when Jurrien Timber's cut-back rightly reached Declan Rice and the English midfielder struck the ball through the crowded box to beat Andre Onana.
Arsenal have been unbeaten in four of their previous five Premier League games extending their lead over United to 21-point. The Gunners maintain second position in the EPL standings with 55 points with a margin of four points ahead of the trailing rivals, Nottingham Forest.
The outcome extended United's winless run against Arsenal to six Premier League games. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim’s men prevailed the last time both sides met in the FA Cup third round.
