Plymouth Progress To Fifth-round, Eliminate Liverpool From FA Cup

Liverpool have been eliminated from the FA Cup by an unusual team from the Championship, Plymouth Argyle in a 1-0 defeat following a penalty drawn from Harvey Elliott's handball offense.

Arne Slot's starting lineup featured names from his reserves, with key players like Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Cody Gakpo absent. Players like Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez made the list, yet Plymouth lived up to the challenge and stopped the Reds from progressing to the next round.

Plymouth secured the game-deciding goal with Ryan Hardie's penalty. The midfielder scored from the spot following Harvey Elliott's handball offense from Sorinola's throwing. Both sides maintained the status quo until after the halftime break when the hosts moved ahead to lead.

It was fantastic show of competence from Plymouth as they held to the lead for the remaining minutes and Hazard was the hero for the great saves of Liverpool's efforts, especially Jota's half volley in the stoppages.

The side from the Championship maintained defiance at the back and neither Luis Diaz nor Darwin Nunez could get passed their fortress. It was a well-deserved victory for Plymouth. While Liverpool are removed from the competition, Plymouth will be making their first FA Cup fifth-round appearance in 2006-07.
