Omar Marmoush Bags Hat-trick As Manchester City Put Four Past Newcastle
Manchester City sealed a comfortable 4-0 victory against Newcastle United, with a sensational display of skills from Omar Marmoush, who contributed a hat-trick.
City had a good day hosting Newcastle at Etihad Stadium following a forgettable midweek encounter against Real Madrid in the Champions League playoff. That was Pep Guardiola’s third competitive defeat in six matches by his men, who could not seem to find consistency.
Despite history not being on their side, Champions League-chasing Newcastle arrived confidently, boasting of the physical advantage of having not played in midweek. However, all those came crumbling down in the first half.
Marmoush set the game off by darting into the center for Ederson's cross-pitch lob and dashed off to lob the ball over onrushing Dubravka. He followed with the second goal as Ilkay Gundogan played him in dashing into the box and striking the ball down the bottom right of the goal.
By half an hour, he had completed his hat-trick guiding a shot home from Savinho's cut-back. James McAtee completed the rout in the latter stages, tapping into the net from a close range an Erling Haaland's flicker following Gundogan's corner.
City had been good on a remarkable home tie record for comfortable victories against Newcastle. They have won each of their previous 16 Premier League games at the Etihad against the Magpies – only three teams have had longer winning runs against an opponent in English top-flight history.
Overview
Marmoush recorded his first goal for the Citizens playing from the left, which was a role Savinho would have played. However, the Brazilian forward played from the left while Phil Foden played from the center. The goals ensued as the Egyptian winger gained room in the center. It was a wreck for Newcastle. He appeared to read the situations well especially Ederson's lob.
On the other hand, Newcastle was a flop, outpaced, and outperformed. They tried to make amendments by connecting Anthony Gordon to fire up the attack but that did not work. Isak had an average performance day. The Magpies' defense was vulnerable and Marmoush could not have been expected to be the underdog for City.
