Liverpool Storm Into EFL Carabao Cup Final With Thrashing Win Over Tottenham

Liverpool are through to the League Cup final after they comfortably thrashed Tottenham 4-0, undoing their 1-0 deficit to the Spurs from the first-leg encounter and won on aggregate by 4-1.

It was unlike the Spurs in the manners by which Liverpool dictated the game; over them - they were somewhat lackluster for the first period. The four-goal thriller saw most of the goals coming from the second half.

As Liverpool asserted their control over the match, Cody Gakpo struck and ended the deadlock after half an hour by smacking home Mo Salah's cross. The lead doubled after halftime as Salah curled the ball into the top-left corner, leaving Tottenham goalkeeper Kinsky with no chance.

Dominik Szoboszlai set the Reds clear by three goals neatly guiding a shot home from inside the box before Virgil van Dijk added a fourth with a header in the dying minutes from Mac Allister's cross.

The Reds will now face Newcastle United at Wembley on March 16th, setting up a mouth-watering final. It will be Liverpool's 15th League Cup finals appearance at Wembley Stadium.

Overview

Tottenham did not seem able to make anything of the game considering the Reds' tenacity and dictate of the game. Liverpool did not allow the Spurs to play that energetic and pacey approach they often bring into games. That allowed the Reds to work their plans out and overtake the Spurs' lead from the first-leg encounter.

Liverpool's dominance did not come off the injury picked by Richarlison. Neither Heung-min Son nor the substitute Mathys Tel could impact the game differently as Gakpo and Salah repeatedly created chances for the Reds.
