Harry Maguire's Header Takes Man United To FA Cup Fifth Round
Manchester United secured a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Leicester City in the FA Cup following two late goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Harry Maguire.
Leicester fairly dominated the game before they took the lead from De Cordova-Reid's finishing a rebound from Ndidi's effort. The equalizer finally came in after an hour when Zirkzee restored the game to level terms, conveniently guiding Rasmus Holjund's poorly blocked effort into the net.
As the match neared its end, United's pressure intensified, and Maguire sealed with a header from Bruno Fernandez's cross from a free-kick. Meanwhile, the winning goal was controversible since two United were marginally offside upon Fernandez's cross but it was Maguire who latched onto the aerial ball.
Since the use of VAR is from the fifth round in the competition, Maguire's goal was not subjected to a review. The victory takes United to the FA Cup fifth round.
Overview
The match began with United's familiar pattern of sideways passing at the back, but Leicester's press soon forced them to play deep into their own half. United did not get the impressive start they wanted until after halftime when they regained level terms. Leicester were the better side in the first period and the crowds were not impressed, booing the Red Devils for such a performance.
Ruben Amorim's adjustment by replacing Mainoo with Zirkzee gave United a reboot offensive-wise. They dictated the second period squarely and Garnacho played a significant role in keeping the pressure on the Foxes and assisted with the equalizer. Nistelrooy's attempt to hold on to the lead by reinforcing his defensive approach was effective, it was not long before United found an unusual moment to pull off the winner. Brilliant effort from Maguire and an impressive display of consistency from the Red Devils to complete a comeback.
