Coppa Italia: Tammy Abraham, Joao Felix Shine As AC Milan Beat AS Roma To Progress to Semifinal
AC Milan are through to the semifinal of the Coppa Italia following the 3-1 defeat of AS Roma with Tammy Abraham and debutant, Joao Felix making significant contributions to lead the side through.
Abraham set off the lead by scoring a brace. The first goal was with a header following Theo Hernandez's cross and he followed with the second goal minutes before the halftime break as Hernandez slipped in the ball inside the box for him to finish off.
As Roma intensified pressure on Milan, Artem Dovbyk pulled one back for the hosts slamming a short volley home from Angelino's cross. Eventually, Milan moved clear with the third goal as Joao Felix received Gimenez's pass and dunked the ball over onrushing Mile Svilar.
Roma stepped up their pace and could have narrowed the lead to pave the way for a comeback but the VAR canceled Rejinder's own goal for Dovbyk's offside. The Chelsea loanee, Felix's goal will be his first for the side he newly joined.
Milan have progressed to the semi-final of the Coppa Italia where they will face either Lazio or Inter Milam. They are far from contending for the Serie A, trailing the leaders, Napoli by 21 points.
Overview
Roma rose to the occasion to refute Milan's repeated onslaught; however, it was good of the hosts to have taken the lead earlier. Roma resolved to get back on level terms by midway through the first period, but Milan held strong to the lead. Tammy Abraham reclined to help at the back and Tomori was impressive keeping the opposition in check as Roma played deep into their half.
Theo was remarkable on the overlap in the first period and was involved in both scored by Abraham. The second half however witnessed a more resolved Roma. Sergio Conceicao's substitutions with Joao Felix and Rafael Leao paid off. Felix was making his debut after he completed his loan move to the side on Tuesday.
