Chelsea Humbled By Brighton In Spectacular Way

Brighton & Hove Albion secured a resounding 3-0 victory over Chelsea, condemning the Blues to their biggest Premier League defeat under Enzo Maresca.

Before half an hour into the game, the hosts had established control. Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma set the side ahead following a counter Verbruggen's cross-pitch lob. After getting a touch on the aerial ball, he rounded Trevoh Chalobah and guided a right-footed shot to beat Filip Jorgensen.

Brighton doubled with Abdoulaye Minteh scoring his first of the night. The Gambian striker showed great composure to sidestep Marc Cucurella and lashed the ball into the net following a delightful combination between Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck.

Chelsea did not get better in finding their place in the game and the Seagulls extended the margin on the hour, with Minteh scoring his second of the night. The striker played a one-two to beat a challenging defender, before lashing a deflected strike past Jorgensen.

Chelsea's defeat was their biggest under Maresca, raising serious questions about the team's defense. Brighton's pacey attack exposed the Blues' lack of cohesion at the back, extending their winless away matches to five in a row in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Brighton have now won their first home game in six Premier League games.

Overview

Spectacular display of competence from Brighton for a convincing takedown of Chelsea, who barely could penetrate their box and loose with their passes. Mitoma was a big trouble for Chelsea, barreling around the pitch to give Chelsea's defense a difficult day.

Chelsea barely could get a break from the Seagulls' onslaught, substitutions made brought no changes to the situation. It was convincing the game would not go their way. It was that kind of a match that Chelsea performed below average leaving Brighton with the upper hand to dictate the pace. Initially, the Blues seemed up to something good but gradually began to drag as Brighton established dominance.

Conversely, the hosts were spot on in every way and Minteh was significant in that His overlapping to help on the attack was effective with a brace to his effort. He was near getting a hat trick had Mitoma played him in on a counter in the last quarter of the game.
