Chelsea Reclaim Top Four After Comfortable Victory Against Southampton
Chelsea leaped to the top four after defeating Southampton 4-0 at Stanford Bridge as Christopher Nkunku led the scoring streak.
Southampton were no match for the Blues and could only resort to defending the half for much of the time. Having to win was important for Chelsea to restore them to the top four and hope to earn a Champions League slot.
Tosin Adarabioyo's flicker landed rightly for Nkunku's header from close range setting Chelsea ahead with the opening goal. Pedro Neto doubled the lead from an assist from Nkunku, who played him in on a counter.
Colwill's header from Neto's free-kick set the side ahead with third on the brink of halftime. With the game near the closing stages, Marc Cucurella rifled home the fourth following a counter as Tyrique George picked him up with a pass inside the box.
The loss renders Southampton at the bottom of the table. Chelsea overtook Manchester City to be fourth on the table, 3xtending their winning streak to three consecutive Premier League games.
Overview
Exciting game, outrightly dominated by Chelsea for a clean sheet victory whilst the Saints barely could cause a scare to hold off the Blues onslaught except Onuachu's moment with a header that forced Jorgensen's save.
The goals were well crafted and made a show of the Saints' defense. Nkunku had a field day penetrating through the Saints. Cole Palmer had no trouble in the midfield feeding out the balls though he was not directly involved leading to the goal. His presence was adequately felt.
