Nottingham Forest Show Mettle Against Front-runners, Liverpool

This season’s surprise package, Nottingham Forest have not only defied many by residing inside the Premier League’s top-four, rather their current remarkable six-game winning league streak sees them sit in second place ahead of Arsenal!

Although Forest's mettle was tested when they hosted front-runners Liverpool, with the Tricky Trees looking to make history by equalling their all-time longest-winning league run of seven victories. The game eventually ended in a 1-1 draw.

Anthony Elanga produced a sweet pass and picked out Chris Wood (Nottingham) inside the box, who took a shot into the bottom right corner, sending Nottingham into the lead. The was later restored to level terms in the second half as Diogo Jota headed home the equalizer following Konstantinos Tsimikas' corner.

However, Nuno EspĂrito Santo’s current crop rewrote yet more modern history, as Forest would complete their first Premier League back-to-back unbeaten run against Liverpool since the 1962/63 campaign after their famous 1-0 victory at Anfield in September. They now return to the City Ground, which they have turned into one of the most difficult places to visit recently, winning six of their last seven home games, five of which came ‘to nil’.

Liverpool will necessarily be feeling the heat, with bad days in the office being few and far between for Arne Slot’s side. That loss to Forest remains their only league defeat this campaign. Also, they did lose their last away game 1-0 against Tottenham in the EFL Cup semi-final first-leg.

Before those encounters, the Reds were rather lucky to have drawn their last Premier League game 2-2 against rivals Manchester United after turning in a below-par performance. Getting back to winning ways in the league will help the Merseysiders stamp their authority on an already dominant league campaign, and hitting the road has been highly profitable since they’ve won seven of their nine away league games this season.
