Australian Open: Sinner Edges Macros Giron To Reach Fourth Round

As the Australian Open gets underway in Melbourne, Jannik Sinner looks set for another intriguing season. He reached the tournament's fourth round by taking out Macros Giron, an American opponent.

Macros did not last longer than straight sets, 6-3 6-4 6-2 against the top seed. Although he showed a level of resistance in the second set that the Italian player broke first in the fifth game. Macros maintained the push for a rally at 5-4 for a break of serve at 0-30 but refuted as Jannik held strongly to his ground for the set win.

"I am very happy to be in the next round. Every match has its own difficulties," Jannik admitted. "I still have room to improve, but every win is great, especially in these conditions. As always, thank you so much for your support, it's amazing to play night sessions here."

Jannik conceded a break to the American in the third set, however, he broke five times in 10 break advantages. It has not been an easy run for him through the rounds. Though he has only dropped a set through the rounds, he battled through two tie-breaks against Nicolas Jarry in the opening round.

Following his impressive run through last season, Jannik extended his winning run to 10 successive matches. En route to his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne last season, he defeated Novak Djokovic in a four-setter. He then progressed to win the title by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final.

Already, he is the youngest Italian player to win a title at the tournament. He will now progress to meet Holger Rune in the next round.
