Comeback Not Enough, Late Sees Manchester United Out Of EFLCup

Tottenham stood in the way and eliminated Manchester United from the EFL Carabao Cup in the quarterfinals, for what would have been their first hope of silverware this season.

United lost narrowly by 4-3 to the Spurs but later rallied after conceding three to their hosts. Until an hour into the game, the Red Devils seemed done. Ruben Amorim made changes and the team was revamped for business. They scored two goals to reduce the deficit. Eventually, a controversial goal from Heung min Son's corner would further make matters worse.

It was not United's best start to the game, but the Red Devils continue to witness improvements regarding their commitment to the game. Amorim's changes technically revamped the side for the comeback, with Zirkzee setting off the rally.

Spurs exploited the weakness in the United's defense, particularly both Solanke's goals and Martinez was the culprit in both instances. Initially, poor defensive clearance from Martinez gave away the second goal but he was completely outpaced and beaten to an aerial ball for Solanke to make the better off.

Although Jonny Evans' stoppage goal tried to bring United back into the game but time was already far spent. Interestingly, all three goals were through players Amorim brought in from the dugout. Upon the substitutions he made, United were visibly more resilient except that the defense was really fatigued.
