Bukayo Saka Dazzles As Arsenal Maintain Dominant Form To See Of Monaco
Bukayo Saka was the standout player for Arsenal in the side's 3-0 victory over Monaco at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, that further consolidated the Gunners' position in the group league standings. However, the victory did not just come about easily as the Monagasque side was well-to-do in terms of performance.
Saka contributed a brace and gave a scoring assist to Kai Havertz, whose subtle flick beat the challenge from Mohammed Salisu into bottom left corner. His contributions have now extended his goal tally to four in this Champions League campaign.
Though the match was tedious for much of the early stages, with both teams trading jabs, they barely created clear-cut chances to set either of the sides ahead. However, Arsenal began to turn the screw after half hour into the game and created two huge opportunities for Gabriel Jesus, which the Brazilian forward could not put in the net but later assisted with Saka's opening goal.
Similarly, Havertz was involved in Saka's second goal even though it was largely caused by the opponents defensive error, the winger later compensated him, with an assist that Havertz was just within scoring range to tap home. Fair to say that just as Saka was the standout performer in the game, Havertz and Jesus were also quite prominent at the front amidst resilience from the Monagasques particularly in the second-half.
Arsenal now stand a better chance to progress to the knockouts since they are in the top-four of the group standings. In the domestic league, they are likewise strong contenders for the silverware this season. Under Mikel Arteta, the Gunners remained impressive except that they have not complimented that effort with winning either the Champions League or the Premier League.
