Wizkid's Album Morayo Dazzles Airwaves, Sets New Record
Just as anyone would expect of an album from an artiste like Wizkid, his new studio project, Morayo is gathering pace on streaming platforms and already breaking record in just a week into its release - it is churning out numbers and is not slowing down.
Last week, Wizkid released his fifth album which is believed to be a attribute to his late mum, who past away recently. The album was received well by his the audience following him on his social media handles. However, the album quickly spiraled into a frenzy such that it set new record for the most streamed album from an African artiste in its first week. Having recorded 48 million streamed on Spotify, it upset the previous record Tyla's 46.4 million.
The accolades that the album Morayo is receiving did not stop there. Across platforms, the album has garnered over 118 million streams in its first weekend. The album started off the streak by topping Apple Music Nigeria chart days into its release.
Obviously, Wizkid is one top artiste from his country, Nigeria that is unmatched even though he did not win the first Grammy for his genre - Burna Boy won it for Twice As Tall in 2021 - he later won it for his collaboration with Beyonce on Brown Skin Girl.
Wizkid rose to stardom with the single Holla At Your Boy under a record label own by another artiste, Banky W in 2010. Ever since then, the rest is history. He stands to add to his Grammys tally next year following his nomination for the 67th edition of the annual ceremony alongside other artistes like Asake, Burna Boy and others.
