Victor Osimhen Makes Galatasaray's Day To Ward Off Tottenham

It was a torturous night for Tottenham Hotspur as Victor Osimhen and Akgun led Galatasaray to take the advantage of the Londoners' slack, exposing their frailties of their defense to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory. It was the Spurs first defeat in the Europa League campaign this season.

Galatasaray dominated from the start, scoring three goals in the first half, with Osimhen netting twice. Tottenham's defense was left reeling, with the Nigerian striker's pace and movement proving too much to handle. The two goals, however, came off Dries Mertens' through ball assists, too correct for the striker to miss.

Prior to Osimhen's showdown, Yunus Akgun had set the side ahead with a half-volley that beat Foster to the goal following a free-kick. Tottenham were able to get on level terms from Lankshear's Will tapped in from Brennan Johnson's assist. That effort eventually was not enough even as Dominic Solanke's back-heeled into the net Pedro Porro's cross to narrow the lead midway of the second half.

Osimhen's performance was a masterclass, with the striker running Spurs ragged. He missed two more wonderful chances, but his brace was enough to seal the win for Galatasaray.

Galatasaray have now maintained unbeaten run through three games in the opening stages and are well out to progress to the knockout stages. For Spurs, it will be the first time they  concede three goals in the UEFA Europa League competition.

Overview

Spurs had a tough game from their Turkiye opponents and yet maintained the outlook to make a comeback after going down to 10-man for Lankshear's red card. Even at that, Galatasaray had the game at hand regardless and having to shore up the team with new legs did help maintained their composure through the game.

Galatasaray had the better of the offensive in terms on attempts at the goal, they completely took over the midfield until midway of the second period. Meanwhile, Spurs appeared to be motivated even after Lankshear's dismissal and played more or less like they had it altogether.
