Ruben Amorim Is Manchester United New Manager

Sporting Lisbon manager, Ruben Amorim has been confirmed as the new manager of Manchester United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday.

United are understood to have triggered the release clause in Amorim's contract set at £9.25million. To that effect, the newly-appointed manager reportedly will assume duty on November 11 ahead of his first match against Ipswich.

In the meantime, Ruud van Nistelrooy is understood to still maintain his role as the interim manager and will lead the team to the three remaining matches until Amorim will resume office. The Portuguese, 39, will be accompanied by five other coaches including a goalkeeping coach.

Erik was sacked for United's poor start to the season. The club management had earlier met to discuss his future at the club, and since their choice replacements, Gareth Southgate and Tomas Tuchel declined the job, they kept him on the job until leading the team to 2-1 loss to West Ham last weekend.

Amorim, in the other hand, will yet lead Sporting to a couple of matches including UEFA Champions League fixture against Manchester City until his contract with United come into effect. Having done his managerial training under Jose Mourinho then as United manager, Old Trafford is not an unfamiliar turf for the Portuguese.

He became one of Europe's most sought after managers for leading Sporting to 14 consecutive unbeaten run and closed the season atop the Primera Liga to win the title. Presently, Sporting are atop the table, leading with three points clear nearest rivals, FC Porto.
