Premier League: Chelsea Secure Hard-fought Victory At Leicester
Chelsea secured a hard-fought 2-1 win at Leicester City, with goals from Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez propelling the Blues up to third in the Premier League table.
Despite dominating their hosts for large periods, Chelsea were forced to endure a nervy finish after Jordan Ayew's stoppage-time penalty for Leicester set up a tense conclusion.
Chelsea took the lead in the early stagesthrough Jackson's clever finish, with the striker punishing the Foxes for not clearing their lines. Fernandez spared Madueke's blushes by scoring with a 75th-minute header, before Ayew's late penalty set up a nervy finish.
The Blues should have doubled their advantage shortly after halftime break, but Madueke's unfortunate block denied Palmer a certain goal. Leicester could have gotten a penalty awarded to them earlier when Fofana dropped Mavididi in the box but the VAR ruled against calls for a spot-kick. Madueke also had his goal canceled midway of first half over Cucurella offside position.
The victory, however, extended Chelsea's unbeaten run (11) against any newly-promoted sides including Leicester. In addition, the loss would mean that Leicester have lost back-to-back for the second time in this campaign as they struggle with keeping away from the relegation zone in 17th position.
