Premier League: Chelsea Rock-Up To Man United At Old Trafford
Chelsea fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford, with credits to Moises Caicedo's stunning late strike and sent the Blues to the top four of the EPL.
United were playing their second game under interim manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, a victory would have meant a lot to him but a hard-fought pulled a stunner and handed a draw ar best. The Red Devils had just signed a new manager, Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon on Friday and the Portuguese, 39, will assume duty from November 11.
Both side got well on the game but the deadlock was not snapped late into the second half, and it was United who took the lead with 20 minutes to go, when Robert Sanchez brought down Rasmus Hojlund in the box, and Bruno Fernandes netted from the penalty spot. But Chelsea were not to be denied, and Caicedo got the visitors back on level terms with a superb 20-yard volley after a corner was cleared into his path.
The equalizer was Caicedo's first goal for the Blues and Enzo Fernandez narrowly missed the chance set up by Nicolas Jackson to double the goals shortly after. It was consoling to the Blues, who were just beaten back-to-back by Newcastle United last week - United trashed Leicester City 5-2 while Chelsea was eliminated from the EFL Carabao Cup by Newcastle United in 2-0 clean-sheet victory.
Overview
The Blues had started in confident mood, but were unable to fully assert themselves, leading to the Red Devils to take the lead. Having to win would have restored United back to winning ways and a compliment to Nistelrooy.
Caicedo was in great form during the game. The Ecuadorian midfielder was a thorn in the side of Manchester United all match, and his goal was a just reward for his efforts. He got to the ball on the edge of the box and fired a shot on his first touch without any hesitation. The strike is excellent and goes straight into the bottom left corner. He couldn't have done it any better.
Chelsea showed more attacking bite and luck from set pieces, and with a decent effort teased crosses but the host team accentuated. Even as Marcus Rashford slalomed his way past challenges, United's defence did well to get the ball away.
