Novak Djokovic Will Not Be Participating In Nitto ATP Finals
Novak Djokovic will not be participating in the season's closing tournament, Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, for a reason he blamed on an injury.
The former world no. 1 is the defending champion at the tournament and had just missed out on the milestone of 100th ATP singles title at the Shanghai Masters for losing to Jannik Sinner in the final. The Italian player even went on to eliminate the Serbian at the Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia for a back-to-back defeat - though the tournament in Riyadh was an exhibition event and will not be counted as an ATP encounter.
"It's quite an honour to qualify for the @nittoatpfinals in Turin," he wrote inna statement he released via Instagram. "I was looking forward to being there, but due to ongoing injury I won't be playing next week."
Having to pull out further pushed his quest for his 100th ATP title to next season. Last year, he defeated Jannik in straight sets 6-3 6-3 to win the trophy. Since that tournament, beating Jannik has been an uphill task for him.
