Nitto ATP Finals: Jannik Sinner Wins Trophy
Jannik Sinner has won his maiden Nitto ATP Finals trophy, with a sensational dominance of the final match against Taylor Fritz to win in straight sets, 6-4 6-4. Having won the season-ending trophy, he brought his title-streak this season to eight.
Also worthy of mentioning, is that the world no. 1 maintained a perfect run through the Finals, dropping no sets through the matches played. The fascinating performance will be its first time in the ATP Tour Finals since 1986 and Jannik accomplished that as the youngest player ever to lift the trophy.
"The higher you play level-wise, the more details make the difference," said Jannik afterwards. "I'm always trying to improve as a player and trying to understand what I can do better."
Taylor had had an impressive run through the tournament, but against Jannik, it was a showdown of competence and he was wanting and was not even able to convert his only break advantage. His attempt to catch Jannik offguard with drop shots did not pay off, and as for the Italian, his forehand shots and athleticism were yet to his advantage.
Performance and Victories
Jannik, throughout the season, maintained 50-3 wins on hard-court and extending his tally to 70 match wins in a single season. It has been an incredible year for the Italian, who last year missed winning the trophy in his debut final appearance last year losing to Novak Djokovic.
Since the start to this season, Jannik has made a turnaround to win important tournaments like Australia Open and US Open in this season. Though, the first time for an Italian at the ATP Tour Finals but he has been the man to beat for every player including Djokovic.
