Manchester City Throw Away Resounding Lead To Draw In Feyenoord's Comeback
Manchester City's Champions League clash with Feyenoord ended in dramatic fashion, with the Dutch side scoring three goals in the final 15 minutes to secure a stunning 3-3 draw.
Erling Haaland's double and Ilkay Gundogan's strike had given Manchester City a resounding lead, but Feyenoord's late comeback exposed Manchester City's defensive frailties once again.
With a quarter left into the game, Feyenoord seized a defensive flop as Hadj-Moussa latched onto an aerial ball and rounded Ederson before tapping home his goal. At this point, the Dutch side became even more resilient.
Gimenez later doubled the goal for the Dutch, chesting home Lotomba's cross that beat Ederson to reach him in front of the empty net. The equalizer caught the City offguard as Paixao latched onto a lob from inside the midfield, headed the ball past onrushing Ederson and lobbed a pass over to Hancko to finish off.
The comeback quickly overshadowed the earlier performance of the City during which Haaland joined list of players with the quickest goals in 50 Champions League games. By the way, City have some of its prominent players ruled out for injuries that have bedeviled the team recently.
Feyenoord's plausible comeback was in the end historic for the side as the City became the first Premier League to lose a Champions League game after leading with three or more goals. The injury incidents in the team continue to erode the City that everyone knows about.
Overview
Manchester City dominated proceedings for large periods and could not hold the lead to see out the game. For the reasons of defensive flops, Feyenoord were able to make the needed comeback to share the spoils.
Besides the City's slacking defense, Feyenoord were well composed side nonetheless. The build ups leading to the goals were well orchestrated and the finishes were nothing less than thrilling. Another plausible effort from the Dutch side was keeping on side in the build ups to those game changing goals.
