Man City Get the Feel of Ruben Amorim
Ahead of his resumption as Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim has already given a teaser to what his counterparts in the Premier League should expect from him. Presently, he has few days to run with Sporting Lisbon before the set date in his contract to resume office at Old Trafford. However, he led the Portuguese side to thrash Manchester City in a Champions League match showdown on Tuesday night.
Sporting stunned Manchester City with a resounding 4-1 victory, with credit to a hat-trick from Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. It was a testament to the tactical genius of outgoing manager, Amorim.
City started brightly, with Phil Foden firing them ahead in the third minute. City became wasteful in front of goal despite dominance and that proved costly, as Gyokeres equalized before halftime and then bagged two more in the second half.
Gyokeres' performance was masterclass with clinical finishes. The Swedish striker took advantage of City's defensive vulnerabilities. His equalizer was a stunning strike, holding off Akanji's contest to guide home a shot from inside the box. He later added two second-half goals to seal the victory for Sporting.
Erling Haaland, on the other hand, had a night to forget. The Norwegian striker wasted numerous chances, including a penalty, and was outshone by his fellow Scandinavian Gyokeres.
Sporting's 4-1 win over Manchester City was a thrilling match that showcased the tactical prowess of Ruben Amorim. More so, could it be said that he has Gyokeres at his reach should United have a need to sought for a striker in the summer transfer window or even earlier?
