Kylian Mbappe Throws Away Real Madrid's Only Scoring Chance As Liverpool Seized Victory At Anfield
Liverpool claimed a well-deserved 2-0 victory at Anfield against Real Madrid, whose Champions League campaign continues to slack and have dropped to the edge of the red zone of the standings.
As would be expected of the Reds given the chance, they nearly surged ahead earlier into the game as Nunez forced a save from Courtois. Apparently, the game was the kind that the Reds would take for granted but the first half stayed in a draw.
Mac Allister's brilliantly struck from inside the box, gifted the Reds the lead after halftime. He doubled up on a pass from Salah and struck the ball down bottom right to beat Courtois. Gakpo later put the side clear by two goals with a header following a corner.
Salah and Kylian Mbappe should have both added in goals tp their sides from penalties but both players missed converting the spot-kicks. That kept Real ahead until Gakpo struck to consolidate the lead.
Bear in mind that Vinicius Jr was missing ub the starting lineup over hamstring injury, and likewise Rodrygo, and that left the Spaniards a little in the disadvantage against an agile side like Liverpool. The Spaniards all offensive approach to the game was neatly contained by the English side and on top of that was Kelleher saving Mbappe's penalty.
Overview
It was an interesting game from both sides and the Reds saw out the home game taking an advantage on Real's moments of shoddy defensive play. The set-piece leading to the winning goal really caught Real unprepared and Gakpo was left almost unmarked to glide for a head such that a challenge from Modric was too late to impede on him. Mac Allister's was from the brilliance of Salah, for rightly rounding the Real's defense to get the ball to Mac Allister in shooting range. Plausible game to the Reds and for securing the victory.
