General Motors Completes Agreement With F1 For 2026 Entry
General Motors has completed plans to enter the Formula 1 and has finalised agreement with the organisers to be the 11th racing team in 2026.
Formula 1 confirmed the development via a statement released by the president and chief executive Liberty Media, Greg Maffei that the American automaker will join the grid under its luxury brand, Cadillac.
"We credit the leadership of General Motora and their partners with significant progress in their readiness to enter Formula 1," the statement reads.
The enter of GM, F1 confirmed speaking to the BBC comes at the cost of paying entry fee of $450m. This fee the body said will be split across the existing 10 racing team as to cover the loss in prize money owing to the inclusion of the new racing team, Cadillac.
General Motors has also partnered with their American counterparts, TWG Global in building engine for its racing car. However, to meet up with the FIA requirements, GM is expected to buy engine from an existing customer and that preferred customer for the US automaker is believed to be Ferrari.
It will join the likes of Ford and Audi, who are also new comers. Just as GM plans to source their engines from Ferrari, Ford is working with Red Bull on engine building and Audi are with Sauber on engine. Renault is the engine builder and owner of Alpine.
