Brazil and Real Madrid Player, Vinicius Jr. Finds His Roots

Real Madrid and Brazilian forward, Vinicius Jr. has found his link to Cameroon, this is not in terms of football rather, regarding his African ancestry as shown to him on Tuesday following a DNA test.

Vinicius is a prominent figure in today's football, particularly in European football league where he has won several trophies with Real Madrid including the UEFA Champions League trophies. Without a doubt, he is a key figure in his country's national team as well.

He was joined by his father, Vinicius José Paixao de Olivera during the DNA testing, which was before the country's World Cup qualifier game against Uruguay. The test which was conducted by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) president, Ednaldo Rodriguez commended the practice as a way of acknowledging the contributions of Afro-Brazilians to the country's football.

"By knowing his origins, we reaffirm our commitment to an inclusive society," said Rodriguez presenting the player with a certificate. "Recognizing the fundamental role of Afro-Brazilians culture in our identity and our success in global football."

Vinicius was one of the top contenders for this year's Ballon d'Or, which he narrowly missed winning to Spain and Manchester City player, Rodri in what was deemed to be controversial. The Brazilian was voted as the runner-up to the trophy.
