Rafael Nadal Talks About Retirement

 


Rafael Nadal has opened up on his retirement plan, which he confirmed might be after participating in the Davis Cup in November. 

For sometimes now, there have  been speculations regarding the Spaniard's retiring form tennis since his career took a hit from his injury spell. For the past two years, he barely participated in most tournaments for the same reason. Having decided to hangup his racket, he confessed that the "last two (years) especially" were really the difficult periods of his career. 

"I am here to let you know that I am retiring from professional tennis," he announced. "It has been some difficult years, the late two especially. I don't think i have been able to play with limitations."

Nadal has had an incredible career, with 22 Grand Slam titles, he has the most men's singles titles only behind Novak Djokovic. He is the all-time clay-court season biggest titlist and his often described as the "King of Clay." 

He is well decorated with high-prized titles amongst which is holding the record for most titles at the French Open with 14 trophies. More so, he leads at Barcelona Open with 11 titles, and at Madrid Open and US Open, he won four titles each. He is also a two-time champion at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. 

At the Olympics, Nadal is not left out in term of medals. In the course of his three Olympic Ganes appearances, he won rhe gold medal for men's singles at the Beijing 2008 and his second gold medal was from the men's doubles at Rio 2016.
