Premier League: Salah's Late Stunner Wrenched Arsenal On Getting To Beat Liverpool
Liverpool fought dirty to share points with Arsenal in 2-2 draw at Emirates following a late equaliser from Mohamed Salah and further jeopardised the Gunners' race for the title this season.
Arsenal having to draw extended their winless run to two consecutive Premier League games after losing to Bournemouth last weekend. Apparently, the Gunners have not been finding it easy in the domestic league recently.
Having gained an early lead from Bukayo Saka's effort, the hosts did start well but the Reds did not take long to level up from Virgil van Dijk's header. Saka set off the goal campaign, delightfully finishing off Ben White's aerial ball despite Robertson's challenge. Van Dijk's equaliser came off getting his head to redirect Luiz Diaz's flick into the net following a set-piece.
Arsenal did not leave it to after halftime before restoring the lead as Merino leapt to get to Declan Rice's free-kick and finished that off with a header past Kelleher on halftime stoppage time. The game eventually settled in draw late into the second half, It happened that Alexander-Armold's cross released Darwin Nunez for a counter down the right-flank and set off a pass for Salah to tap home from close range.
Arne Slot's men have now maintained unbeaten through five league games, leavung them to trail with just a point behind Manchester City. More so, Salah have now scored against Arsenal in eight consecutive encounters and Saka's goal extended his tally to 50 in the Premier League.
Overview
Fair at the end, though it was not as Arsenal would have wanted it but Liverpool's resolve was hard to beat down at Emirates. The comeback, however, would not have been possible for the Reds had Arsenal not committed too many players to the front, allowing the Reds to find a fast break.
What is yet persistent with Arsenal is the inability to hold on through a game and seize the maximum points against a top-flight side especially when it is crucial to their title quest. Gabriel would have done a better job at keeping off the build up leading to Salah's equaliser but the Brazilian defender had already been replaced over an injury scare.
