Premier League: Man. United Turnaround Brentford's Scare For Good
Manchester United seized an impressive comeback to secure a crucial 2-1 victory against Brentford as they strived to rewrite the narrative that has put the club manager, Erik ten Hag through scrutiny.
Brentford dealt a blow to United's control of the game in added minutes to the first half as Ethan Pinnock headed in Damsgaard's corner for the Bees to take the lead. The deficit sent a shockwave of frustration through the United team but Garnacho's equaliser from a sensation volley restored the side back into the game shortly after halftime.
Already pressured Brentford later slid behind the Red Devils as Bruno Fernandez's pass set up Rasmus Holjund for a dink in that beat Flekken to the goal. The lead was just enough to keep the hosts through the game for the lead that quickly changed the outlook of the match.
Erik ten Hag's side has experienced a mixed bag of results in recent weeks. A convincing 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League was followed by a disappointing 1-1 draw against Villa. During the week, the club management met to discuss his future with the club. Luckily for him, they resolved to keep him on the job.
Overview
It was not the best of a start that United would have wanted, even as they had the better of the first half they could not get ahead. Brentford did. That settled the halve in a way that left the team a little frustrated.
Garnacho had a handful of chances but drew saves from Flekken instead until after halftime. United played deep into their opponents', who showed tendencies of catching them by surprise on the counter or even pushing back on the pressure. Eventually they did a the set-piece that gave Pinnock the header chance.
Having to turn the game around was crucial to United and for its already trouble boss, Erik ten Hag. Both goals were also important to both players as Holjund recorded his first this season and Garnacho his second goal of the season.
