Champions League: Real Madrid Deliver Their Finest, Convincing Comeback To Rout Borussia In Seven-Goal Thriller
Real Madrid claimed a hard-fought but an emphatic victory against Borussia Dortmund in a goal-hauling comeback to win by 5-2, in a second half thriller that witnessed a superb hat-trick from Vinicius Jr.
Borussia had taken a neat two-goal lead from Malen and Jamie Jamie Bynoe brilliant finishes before a resurgent Real came back for the thrashing and it was a cracker of a game. Two out of the three goal scored by Vinicius were from individual efforts, drilling past a handful of defenders who watched helplessly as the Brazilian struck in goals.
Malen put the Germans ahead scoring from inside the box, and Jamie Bynoe doubled the lead, latching into the box to smack home Malen's cross. Real managed to pull one back from Rudiger's header following Mbappe's cross and that was followed on the hour by Vinicius tapping home another Mbappe's cross.
Real overtook the lead from Vazquez steering home the third goal from inside the box. Jude Bellingham later set off Vinicius for a cross-pitch fastbreak and brilliantly curled home a low-cut shot into the bottom left. The Brazilian wrapped up the hat-trick campaign dribbling past a handful of defenders and neatly finished up the ball for the winning goal.
The hat-trick is the first scored by Vinicius in the UEFA Champions League this season and it is the goal-streak which facilitated the first victory from a UEFA Champions League defending champions trailing by two or more goals.
Overview
Unlike what expectations might be from the early stages, Real were totally magnificent by the manner they come from behind to thrash Borussia in a massive scoring-spree. Borussia made the most of Bernabeu while their hosts were left stunned with a surprising first half lead from Germans. That unfortunately did not last.
Separate moments of defensive glitches handed Borussia the needed goals that put Real in the disadvantage. Jamie Bynoe was allowed too much room and time to latch in for Malen's cross. It turned out that those goals from the first half would not be enough.
Initially, Real did everything right, at the front to comeback into the game but they could not connect the ball rightly into the back of the net. Remarkable moments when two goal attempts from Bellingham and Rodrygo struck the goal frame kept the side through the first half. Earlier, Bellingham's weak header of Vinicius's cut-court cross had also forfeited their comeback effort.
After halftime, Real improved on the defence and their attitude to the game. With Vinicius latching in on the left and Mbappe at the centre of the ox, Borussia's defence suffered a huge setback with contribution from Modric at the centre. It was not just a convincing victory, by the latter stages, Borussia had been outpaced and fatigued, leaving Real all the space for goals.
