US Open: Taylor Fritz Sets Up Maiden Grand Slam Final Apperance Against Jannik Sinner

Taylor Fritz, for the first time in his career, will be making his maiden appearance in aGrand Slam final after he completed a comeback to beat Frances Tiafoe in the semi-final of the US Open.

It was a thrilling and exhausting match in front of electrifying noise from the audience that went the distance of five-set, 4-6 7-5 4-6 6-4 6-1 before Fritz could outlast his compatriot and become the first American to make an appearance in a men's singles Grand Slam final in 15 years.

For Fritz, making it to the final had entailed defeating top-flight players like Casper Ruud in the R16 and Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. Tiafoe did not come easy to beat either and the 12th seed had to denied his opponent two deciding games in the fourth set and forced the game to a decider.

At the fourth set, Tiafoe was all set to stride to the final but two unforced errors would give away a set point to Fritz - combination of a forehand and drop shot errors robbed him of victory. By the fifth set, Tiafoe was really flawed and it was a breeze for Fritz winning 25 point out of 34 pts in the set.

Fritz is now one match away from historic title at Flushing Meadows - the last American male player to win the US Open was Andy Roddick in 2003 - and will face Italian Jannik Sinner in the final.
