Premier League: Newcastle Dealt Blow To Man. City's Point Haul

Manchester City suffered a setback to their Premier League title race, for having to draw for the second game in a row in a hard-fought game against Newcastle United that ended in 1-1 draw at St. James' Park.

City managed to get ahead from Gvardiol's strike that beat Pope to the goal midway of the first half. Briefly after halftime, Anthony Gordon was dropped in the box giving away a penalty for the player to convert for an equalizer earlier into the second half.

Jack Grealish set off the opener, burrowed in from the left-flank to release Gvardiol, who rounded off two defenders before finding the back of the net. City had initially got away with dropping Joelinton in the box before Gordon's cost them the penalty.

Newcastle displayed a great deal of competence in the game. Even as athletic as it was, the Magpies neatly withstood the physicality of the game, with great deal of offensive approach.

City were able to stem the aggression of their opponents by making needed substitutions with Jeremy Doku and Phil Fodun. The Magpies maintained coordination at the back nonetheless, reinforcing their attack with Willock to take the workload off Joelinton, who was a formidable force at the front.

Ilkay Gundogan had a tasking game, with a couple of mistakes from incomplete passes. Rico Lewis as well had a quiet game and was replaced the same time Gundogan was.

City have remained winless in two consecutive Premier League game - last weekend they drew 1-1 against Arsenal. Nonetheless, they have remained unbeaten in 29 consecutive Premier League games and are yet atop the table, leveling on points with Arsenal.
