Premier League: John Stones' Equalizer Rescues Point For Man. City In Draw Against 10-man Arsenal

 

Manchester City and Arsenal played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium, with John Stones' stoppage-time equalizer salvaging a point for the champions against their 10-man opponents. 

Erling Haaland gave Manchester City an early lead, latching onto Savinho's through pass, slotting the ball past David Raya in the 10th minute. The goal sparked a dominant spell for City, with Ilkay Gundogan striking the post with a free-kick moments later.

However, Arsenal responded in stunning fashion in a fast break following a free-kick, with Riccardo Calafiori marking  his full Arsenal debut with a sumptuous equalizer. He unleashied a powerful shot into the far corner beyond Ederson's reach. 

The visitors took the lead in the dying minutes of the first half, with Bukayo Saka's corner landing rightly for Gabriel's header into the back of the net. He had earlier narrowing missed the back of net following a corner. 

But the game took a dramatic turn when Leandro Trossard red carded for a second yellow card offence just before halftime. The Belgian forward was sent off for reckless challenge on Bernardo Silva. 

Arsenal were forced to play deep in their own halve and Just when it seemed they would hold on for a famous win, John Stones popped up with a stoppage-time equalizer following Jack Grealish's assist from the left flank. 

Having to rescue a draw from the match have helped maintained City's unbeaten run through 47 games, and Haaland also print his name in history, becoming the fastest to score 10 goals in five games upsetting his own record of 10 goals from six games.

The highly-anticipated clash between the two title contenders lived up to its billing, with both teams giving it their all in a bid for supremacy. 

It was such an ill-mannered, energetic and exhausting game from the start and such a high-demanding game with City's unbeaten run and table position as stake. Arsenal lived up to the task of maintaining the fate of the game even after losing Leandro Trossard to a red card offense. They played disciplined enough not to draw needless free kicks in front of their own goal that cause a scare from a set piece.

Despite being down to 10 men, Arsenal's defense held firm, with David Raya making stunning saves to deny Haaland and Josko Gvardiol. The visitors' rearguard action was heroic, with every player contributing to the cause.
