Odds Stack Up Against Max Verstappen, Red Bull As Lando Norris Continues To Tighten Up F1 Championship Race

Defending the F1 championship title continues to be an uphill task for Max Verstappen amidst strong challenge from Lando Norris after the McLaren driver won the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday.

Unlike before, Verstappen had to fight his way through only to make podium finish in second despite starting in P2. Conversely, Norris' dominance of the race was emphatic from the get go - his victory further put a dent on the Red Bull driver's F1 title defense. Already, McLaren constructors are in the lead by 41 points on the standings.

Having to go straight eight races without a win is such unlike Verstappen and that could not only cost him F1 standing points, but can further put his fourth F1 title quest in question. Norris continues to trim down his lead, which now stands at 52 points with six races left into the season - they both have made 11 podium appearances apiece this season.

Apparently, there might not be much to expect from Red Bull this season as McLaren appeared to be the best performing car on the grid. Besides Norris, Oscar Piastri drove impressively; he started in P5 and moved up the ranks for podium appearnace. Initially, he cleared up his way moving past Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to second behind his teammate, and later on, past Mercedes' George Russell to trail Verstappen to finish in third.

Verstappen had already complained about his car at Italian GP, which he described as a 'monster and undriveable" and warned that it might cost the team the championship race. Since chief technical officer, Adrian Newey agreed to join Aston Martin next season, Red Bull have found their performance not at its best like they use to.
