Nigeria's Head Coach Resigns After Super Eagles Draw Against Rwanda In AFCON Cup Qualifier

Nigeria's interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen has announced that he will be stepping down from his role after the Super Eagles drew against Rwanda in their AFCON Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Eguavoen was appointed to replace Bruno Labbadia, who abandoned the job over controversy about tax remittance. The former Super Eagles defender confirmed that his agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was to lead the team to two matches after which his contract is over.

"It ends today, which is the two games mandate," Eguavoen reportedly said after the match against Rwanda. "I can't talk about Libya because I haven't been told but, however, I can talk about it a little bit in case we have another coach, we can talk about it."

In his debut, Eguavoen won his first match with the Super Eagles by 3-0 against Republic of Benin. Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman contributed the goals to lead the team to victory. Unfortunately for the 59-year-old, he led the team to a draw against Rwanda at Amahoro Stadium on his last game with the team.
