Idris Elba Presents Plaque To Asake Over Sold Out Concert
Asake is amongst the biggest Afrobeat artists anyone can find in town, no doubt. He evidently is making that statement for having to sell out a venue of 20,000-capacity. It could not be more satisfying to him to have been presented a plaque by another big name in the industry, even big than he is, arguably, in the person of Idris Elba for selling out the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom.
For an artist to sell out the O2 Arena, it is a career milestone, but for Asake, he is doing this for the season time - he sold out the venue last year on the release of his second album, Work of Art. The concert on Saturday was for his Lungu Boys World Tour and it was highly successful, bringing Wizkid onstage with him on the night.
Besides the recognition received, Idris also presented him with yet another silverware, BRIT plaque for his last album, Work of Art. Selling out the venue is a huge achievement for any artist, no doubt.
The concert included notable guest performances from the likes of Tiwa Savage, Fireboy, Fridayy and Olamide. Asake's entrance was nothing short of spectacular, arriving in a YBNL Nation-branded helicopter. With his sold-out O2 Arena concert and BRIT silver plaque, Asake might have just cemented his status as a leading force in Afrobeats and global music.
The venue which has documented history of Afrobeat artists' global rise to fame, also witnessed artist such as Davido making the feat in 2018 as the first Nigerian solo act to headline the venue. Wizkid followed suit in 2019 and returned for a historic three consecutive nights in 2021.
