Champion League: David Raya Rescue Arsenal From Loss At Atalanta In First Game
Arsenal managed to get away with a goalless draw at Atalanta in their Champion League opening game, after David Raya saved the penalty that should have turned the game the other way.
Though, Arsenal were for much of the earlier stages, seemed like they were going to control the game deep into the opponents' half. Initially, Atalanta seemed set out to go the counter and remained defensive with Ademola Lookman up on the left, they later switched that up and forced the Gunners to defensive.
Briefly into the second half, Atalanta were meant to have gone ahead after Partey drew a penalty for dropping Ederson in the box, but David Raya was to Arsenal's rescue. He saved the spot-kick from Mateo Retegui and dived to save his rebound attempt with a header.
Arsenal were quiet at the front for much of the second half, neither Bukayo Saka nor Kai Havertz could get the space enough to step up the offensive. Atalanta, who are champions of the UEFA Europa League from last season deserved the outcome, which was their first goalless draw in the Champions League.
