Anthony Fared Unimpressive As Daniel Dubois Establishes IBF Heavyweight Champion Status

Daniel Dubois withstood challenge from Anthony Joshua and knockout the former heavyweight champion in the fifth-round to retain the IBF heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night.

Even as Joshua was hoping to return to heavyweight champion status for the third-time from the fight, he was not that Joshua of yesterday. Dubois stood greater chance of winning from the get go as Joshua seemed really wasted from series of knock downs from his opponent.

In terms of landing punches, Dubois did really well to have considerably broken Joshua's strength as he dragged and struggled to maintain his stamina leading to his defeat. Eventually, a right hook landed just right on Joshua's jaw and he dropped flat to the floor. It was a convincing knockout victory to Dubois in the fifth-round.

The stadium was packed to the brim, with over 90,000 audience in the stands, it was such a big fight that Dubois might have not witnessed in his career. Instead of Joshua to rise to the occasion, he did not. Had the fight progressed through the rounds, it would have gone Dubois' way, anyhow.

Both fighters are Brits, thus the IBF belt stays in the country. However, fans expectations from Joshua was much more than they realised compared to Dubois - he was booed on entering into the ring while Joshua was praised.

Since Joshua lost his heavyweight belts to Mexican-American fighter, Andy Ruiz Jr. fighting has never been the same for the Brit. Though he reclaimed the belts in a rematch in Saudi Arabia, he later lost everything to Ukrainian Alexander Usyk. The latter went on to beat Tyson Fury to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, with WBO, WBA, and WBF titles.

Now that Dubois has successfully beaten Joshua, he has established himself as the new IBF heavyweight champion, retaining the title which was nominally gifted to him few months ago.
