Paris 2024: Noah Lyles Wins Gold, Becomes New Olympic Men's 100-Meter Champion

Noah Lyles is the new men's 100-meter champion after claiming a marginally lead in the final over Jamaican sprinter, Kishane Thompson to win the gold medal for the United States.

Expectation was over the roof as the athletes walked omto the tracks for the final in front of the crowded stadium. They had to wait a little before getting on the mark as the race was delayed for about three minutes. They seemed anxious and unpleasant with that. Eventually, the race kicked off and it was superb.

Thompson had the better start but Lyles quickly built up his pace coming out of the pack and by the last 20-meter had gained the needed momentum to outpace Thompson, the favourite for the top prize.  Marginally by 5000th of a second, Lyle pipped the Jamaican and clinched the gold in a time of 9.79s. Thompson won the silver for Jamaica also in 9.79s.

Italian athlete and defending champion, Lamount Marcell Jacobs did not live up to his performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In earlier races, he did not win any prior to the final.  He finished in distance fifth while American Fred Kerley finsihed third for bronze.
