Paris 2024: Leon Marchand Lands Double Gold Medals For France In One Session In New Olympic Record

Incredible as it may seems at the Paris Games, Leon Marchand dominated both men's 200-meter butterfly and 200-meter breaststroke finals in the same day,  Wednesday and delivered two golds for France. He won both medals in times set for new Olympic records.

Though, both events were two hours apart, Leon dictated the second session better than the first. At the men's 200-meter butterfly final, he outperformed the reigning Olympic champion, Hungary's Kristof Milak. The Frenchman was well in control of his pace that he pipped Milak on the last lap to the gold in a time of 1:51.21. Milak took the silver and behind him was Canadian Ilya Kharun for the bronze.

The audience appeared captivated by Leon's earlier performance in the second session and cheered he on as he coasted through to win the gold in yet another new Olympic time of 2:05.85.  Behind him was Australian Stubblety-Cook for silver and Netherlands Corbeau for bronze medal.

Leon had won his first gold at the Games at 400-meter medley, bringing his tally to three gold for his country. France had not won two gold medals in the same day from swimming before neither was any at the Games since 1900 Olympics by Freddie Lane.
