Paris 2024: Favour Ofili Boosts Nigeria's Hope For Medal, Makes Women's 200-Meter Final
Favour Ofili is poised to win for Nigeria, the much anticipated medal that has elluded the country since the start to the Olympic Games in Paris after she finished second to reached the final.
Juliet Alfred finished ahead of Ofili in a time of 21.98s, but the Nigerian sprinter gave the race a good fight, pacing behind the Saint Lucian athlete to finished in second in 22.05s in the semi-final. In earlier race, Ofili finished atop of Heat 6 ahead of British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith and Gambian Gina Bass.
"Mentality I am ready," said Ofili after the semi-final race. "All I know is when I step on that track, I'm going to cross the line before anybody else.I don't care what you ran before coming in here."
Ofili ws meant to represent Nigeria in the women's 100-meter event, but since her name was omitted, she was unable to. Another athlete, Rosemary Chukwuma eventually represented the country but she could not make it past the semi-final.
