Julian Alvarez Leaves Manchester City To Join New Club

Julian Alvarez has completed his transfer to leave Manchester City for their La Liga counterparts, Atletico Madrid in a contract that is deemed as a club record transfer for City.

Alvarez had just participated at the Paris 2024 Olympics for his country, Argentina U23 football teams that was eliminated from the tournament by France U23 (1-0) in the quarterfinals. The 24-year-old was amongst the three over-aged players in the Argentine team.

The transfer, however, is reportedly worth £81.5 million and expected to last for a period of six years. The payment is understood to be in two splits. First, an initial payment of over £64.4m and the remainder reportedly as add-ons for the striker. That is obviously a big money's worth for a striker that City signed for £14m.

"Today I say goodbye to this amazing club, with a lot of emotion," the club website quoted him as saying. "During this time, I have grown and learnt a lot - both as a player and as a person."

His spell at Etihad Stadium was not lesser than what he would have wish for by the way. He won treble - including the Champions  League - with the club in his debut season, 2022/23. On top of that, he won the Fifa World Cup with Argentina halfway of the season.
